I’m happy to announce that Diane Reid Sail Training and Coaching will be offering two navigation theory courses early in the new year.
The
Coastal Navigation Course is a Sail Canada introductory course in understanding charts, passage making and pilotage. The course is delivered in a very hands on and practical style. Successful candidates will receive a Coastal Navigation certificate. Sail Canada recommends this certificate for Intermediate Cruising and it is a pre requisite for Advanced Cruising.
If you already have the Coastal Navigation….or the equivalent skills, you might be interested in taking the
Advanced Navigation Course. Learn the science of in depth pilotage and passage making for multi-day voyages in tidal waters. This is the only scheduled Advanced Navigation course in Ontario this year. Benefit from the experiences of these two talented instructors while getting your Sail Canada Advanced Navigation certificate. Jamie and Diane are both Sail Canada and Royal Yachting Association trained. Jamie is Canada’s leading Cruising Instructor Evaluator and Ontario’s only Advanced Navigation Instructor. Diane is a Sail Canada cruising instructor as well as an RYA commercially endorsed Skipper of yachts up to 24m in length anywhere in the world.
If you are interested in signing up, please send me a note tdt647@hotmail.com. We are now taking deposits and spaces will fill up quickly as there has already been lots of interest.

Clipper Round The World Yacht Race has officially been sanctioned for sponsoring work visas! For most people this is not terribly exciting news. BUT, if you are a prospective skipper like me who needs a work visa to be eligible for employment as a Clipper skipper, then you ARE ECSTATIC! It’s official…..I’m going back to England as one of the 15 skipper prospects! Now just two more training courses and a flight to England……..the world is full of hoops, you just need to figure out how to jump through them
