What a fantastic week.  The first part of this two part journey is complete.  I have successfully passed my Yachtmaster Offshore exams along with my two sailing partners Doug and Christian.  We all passed nicely and what a great bunch of guys to be on course with.  We were a fantastic cohesive and happy team through all the trials and tribulations.  Thanks guys!  So it’s back to studying for me today and tomorrow I write a three hour exam and do a two hour verbal exam to try to pass the Yachtmaster Ocean.  Celestial navigation at it’s best!

Arrived in Chester Basin safe and sound. I’ve even had a little wander over to the Marina to see Michaela our fantastic Hallberg Rassy for the next week. Class starts tomorrow. I’ve been working on the local charts, doing homework and reviewing all my study work from the last two months. Even had a chance to sample some of the local cuisine!

Here comes the weekend! This weekend I’ll be sharing my Saturday with Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders. We’re taking a workshop with the Canadian Wildlife Federation called Project Wild. As a sailing instructor I am going to learn how to incorporate wildlife and water into my classes. As a sailor I am going to learn more about the beautiful oceans and it’s creatures and how to be more considerate of them when I am racing. I’ll be doing it all alongside the students that I have been teaching Pleasure Craft Operator Card this winter!

Want to warm up and take your Advanced Cruising?  Come to Tortola with me and take your Advanced Cruising on a Delphia 40. I’ll be teaching the course while we sail from Tortola to Miami. There’s a second Advanced Cruising course then from Miami to New York….all at the end of April. Send me a message or call me to get the details and book. 416-878-2677

Congratulations to all the winners last night and to Sail Canada for such an amazing event!

Terry McLaughlin was the winner of the Rolex Sailor of the year award. Truly a well deserved moment And no…..I didn’t die in my high heeled shoes, but I could often be found with them stashed under the table and not on my feet!

Tonight’s mission……to not die while wearing these!

Yes, there is a dress to go along with it. I can’t remember the last time either were cracked out of the closet!  Looking forward to toasting Canada’s awesome sailors tonight at the Sail Canada Rolex Awards    🙂

How often do you get to share the stage with a sailing hero like Gary Jobson?  Well last night I got that once in a lifetime opportunity and did just that.  National One Design brought us an amazing evening celebrating sailing’s past, present and future.  Gary shared some brilliant life experiences along with his most recent adventures covering the last America’s Cup.  His poignant stories gave us a chuckle, but also gave us some very interesting food for thought.  Graciously Gary shared the stage with me, giving me a chance to share my story with the 100+ crowd in the room.  It’s always fun to share my story with others….thank you for the wonderful opportunity Mr. Jobson and thank you to National One Design for putting it all together, but most of all, thank you to all of you who came out in the snow for the fun evening!
