First Leg In!

They’re in!  First leg is pretty much finished.  It’s been an interesting leg.  Lots of upwind, light and variable conditions, which is not traditional for this race.  The top protos seemed to favour West of the rhumbline and the top series boats favoured the rhumbline mostly.  It looks in the end like the skippers with the most stamina, strength and endurance prevailed in the constantly shifting and changing conditions.  Can’t wait to see how leg two goes!

The Transat is trucking along at a great pace.  They are about 300nm from the finish in Madeira.  The big gamble is the guys who went west of the rhumbline.  There’s a new low coming in which will pay for them for a while, but let’s see if it’s enough!  http://www.charentemaritime-bahia.transat650.net/en

There were two divisions each in the JAM fleet and the Spin Fleet for the Omnium Champlain Regatta, with the JAM boats heavily outweighing the SPIN boats in numbers.  Saturday we had two Olympic course races on the JAM course and Sunday saw one nice long 16 mile race for each fleet.  Etoile D’Argent finished 4, 1, 1, giving us 1st in C division, and 1st overall in the JAM fleet!  We had a great team of wonderful people on the boat who were there to have fun, work hard and learn along the way.  What an awesome bunch!  Thanks for the great weekend!!

Planning for France 2012 qualifying year has begun!  Uk Halsey are designing new sails for France as we speak.  Max sail area, max life and max speed are the key factors.  Brian and the whole UK Halsey family are definitely the talent pool to be putting this together.  Hopefully we’ll be able to show you the new main at the Toronto International Boat Show this year!
