Tonight at my home club we honour our members for all their outstanding achievements and efforts throughout the year. I treasure this event so much I think I’ll wear my fancy party dress!

What an awesome race. There are great lessons to be learned here. The winners of this year’s Mini Transat race stayed closer to the rhumb line keeping their miles down. They seemed to accelerate as the race moved along, but in fact one could argue that they held their ground while others struggled to keep up the pace. Never ever ever stop pushing your boat as hard as you can! But the most important lesson of all is not a new one. “To finish first… first you must finish”. A big piece of the puzzle is to make sure that your boat is strong enough to survive whatever happens out there. Mind you there are some things out of our control. Submerged containers and sleeping marine wildlife are a constant fear, but if you have confidence in your boat and your team, then you can fully concentrate on going full throttle all the way down the track! France… here we come! 🙂

The show down is on in the Volvo Ocean Race! Groupama is out on the right and benefited from early wind but now they have to cross over to the West to get to the gate and out of the light air……Puma and Telefonica are BOOKIN it south……Who’se going to come out in front? AHHHHHHHH! Crazy exciting!

The number of races happening right now is CRAZY! The last four racers for the Transat will finish soon, the Volvo Ocean Race just started with some astounding race following technology, the Global Ocean Race just finished leg 1 of 5, and the Transat Jacques Vabre is well under way with 4 of the 6 Multi 50s having abandoned, and 4 of the 16 class 40s have abandoned, and 11 of the 13 IMOCA 60s are still booking it for Puerto Limon. There isn’t enough time in my day to follow these guys…it’s AWESOME!

Most of the Transat racers are in! This year’s Series winner is in a 2003 Pogo 2. There’s a lot to be said for going fast in the right direction!

The Transat race is a grueling and physically punishing race. This year’s competitors are feeling the pain as we speak. 14 days into the second leg they’re busting their way out of the doldrums and have to call upon all of their strength to keep up the pace to win the race. Being physically fit is a key part of winning the race. is the newest member of One Girl’s Ocean Challenge and has taken on the challenge of working me into shape for this arduous race.
utilizes your own body weight as resistance training to strengthen, define, tighten and firm your body, waking up smaller secondary muscles and literally pulling the muscles back to the bone creating a longer, slimmer version of yourself, sculpting long and lean arms, legs, glutes and abs through a weekly changing series of exercises together with the spirited cardio from calisthenics. The IBAO conference was a great success! We met brokers who are sailors, power boaters and people who have never been boating at all, but they were all fascinated about sailing across the Atlantic Ocean in a 21foot rocket machine. Thanks everyone for letting me chare my story 🙂
Then on Sunday we went sailing. It was a GORGEOUS day with a light wind out of the East at 8-10knots. Four of us set out on OGOC for an afternoon of sunshine, wind and great sailing. There won’t be too many more days to do this!

Last regatta of the season is this weekend. Die Hards at Bronte Yacht Club. We’re racing Storm Trooper, Nick’s Soverel 33, and there’s a bunch of work to do to make her race worthy. Today we’re going diving to scrub the bottom. Cross your fingers that it’s not too cold! We’ve also tuned the rig, re and re’d the mainsheet system and retooled tons of other things to be competitive. Woohoo! Bring it on!
